I'm sorry, but. Topshop...

I hope you weren't dreading reading this post because it has the word TOPSHOP in the title. But I am writing this today to hopefully get some feed back on your opinions on the store, the brand, it's purpose and atheistic. Sorry if I am offending anyone!
Basically, I'm not a massive fan. Not saying that I don't go in when a cheeky little sale is going on or I don't have a look when friends are shopping in there, but what really irritates me is the lack of 'creativity' the store and the general target audience have. This might be stereotyping, but I get the impression the type of people that shop there go in with the 'I'll defiantly find something in here' attitude; go in and pick up a pair of leggings and a saggy top, and thats their outfit sorted.
Is it because the store/brand has expanded so much, that it aims to please every type of consumer out there, but at the same time, try to give the store and shopping experience that 'luxury feel'. But how can that happen when the staff alone (if you can find one) aren't particularly trained to complete that feel. They seem to be students who have jumped onto a train after their afternoon lecture. Topshop try to give the customer the best of both worlds, which is what I think irritates me the most. (Oh my I'm getting agitated thinking about it).
For example, Oxford street store; Before you even enter the shop, you have to fight through the crouds of people after coming off the tube, cross the road, and you are bombarded with every type of quilted, paintent clutch, gold chained handbag in every colour possible! Where is the individuality in that! Oh, and also what makes me laugh is the fact that the individuality comes on the bottom floor where the 'vintage' section is.
After having a lecture with Katy the other day she made me see another point of view to Topshop....(Sorry)

Good-ish points
  • It keeps LFW alive
  • Good example of what is happening in trends, right in front of you
And thats about all! Or maybe I didn't write them down? Any who, I was thinking okay, so it's not all bad, until Teresa Havvas (Brand Consultant Lifestyle & Fashion at Puma; Marketing Director at VOLT magazine PLUS overall lovely person) gave us our first tutorial. We began talking about individuality, anti-trends and then, dun dun duunnnn...Topshop. We explained what Katy had said about the store; Teresa screwed up her nose and said something alone the lines of

"Yeah thats all fair enough, but a the end of the day it's benifitting them so much more".

And there I was again, with a full passion of hatred for Topshop. Just when there was a little bit of justification from the other party, It all gets shot down again. And I do thanks Teresa for that! I was nearly taken to the dark side!
